The City Strategy Supervision System Is Available to Riga Residents

The Riga City Council City Development Department, supervising the introduction of the Riga Strategy up to 2025, has elaborated the database. The database allows all interested parties to follow the fulfilment of the city’s strategic goals.

The database provides seventeen defined, long-term strategic goals of Riga, their characteristic indices and assessment over time – the tendencies of the previous four years and of this year. The database is elaborated in two sections, one of which serves as a support instrument for Riga City Council employees when supervising the introduction of the strategy introduction, while the other section is publicly accessible to any interested party.

Acting Director of the Riga City Council City Development Department Gvido Princis says: “The information provided by the database allows any interested party to follow how Riga municipality achieves its set strategic goals, which is a significant step in the accessibility to information and in ensuring the participation of the community.”

The statistical information of Riga is summarised on by using the Central Statistical Bureau database, materials from Lursoft, the State Employment Agency and other sources and, thus, is a convenient instrument to be used in the study process by pupils and students or for research work in different fields.

Information on the research implemented by Riga City Council and its structural units, as well as statistical indices, is available on about different branches: economy, finances, residents, infrastructure, education, city management, city environment, transport, social processes, environment, etc. For example: “Attitude of Residents towards Publicly Arranged Events in Riga”, “Image of Riga from the Point of View of Latvian Residents”, “Interests of Scandinavian and Russian Tourists in Riga” and others.

The Riga Strategy includes the Riga Development Strategy up to 2025 and the Riga Development Programme for 2006 – 2012. It was approved at the end of 2005 by the Riga City Council resolution. In 2008, the City Development Department, within the framework of the strategy supervision system (SUS), prepared the first report on strategy introduction in Riga municipality in 2006 and 2007. Now, the 2008 report is about to be completed and it will be publicly accessible at the end of this year. To prepare the reports, the information provided by the Riga City Council institutions and structural units has been summarised and placed in the database.

The database is currently available in a trial version. All visitors to the database are asked to express their opinions and proposals in the Forum section.
